I got home today to a frozen laptop. I rebooted the system and since then I can't get past the GRUB menu. Each time I select an option in this menu I get a black screen and the GRUB menu returns.

In the GRUB menu I can only load either ubuntu versions (regulars and recovery mode) and xen. If I select the latter it says that there is a crc error, which I guess is a hint at the problem.

How can I find out what is the problem, and how can I solve it?

Note: The live-cd doesn't seem to load as well (don't know if a system or cd issue), it seems it will run but then I just get the GRUB menu again.

Edit: I managed to get the live-cd running by executing reboot in the grub command-line, but every option it gives me just boots back to the live-cd menu (unless i choose to boot from the hard-drive).

Solved: It seems the problem was with the RAM. Removed one of the RAM sticks and that seemed to do the trick.
