Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I've just started using Ubuntu , tried to connect to my wireless network it's not shown at the network icon on the upper tab and added the network in the wireless tap, added the ssid yet nothing happened, and the network isn't shown.

Went through the help files yet couldn't make it work.

I've used the wubi application, on a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop.

Then open the "Additional Drivers" window - is there any wireless drivers to activate? - what is the result of rfkill list all and sudo lshw -class network? Please edit all responses into your question. – fossfreedom Feb 3 '12 at 16:08

I'm guessing your using Ubuntu 11.10. So on the top right corner, there should be an upside down triangle. Click on that and it should locate any wireless network available. Then click on yours and you should be good. Also check in that wireless bar on top of the desktop, check if you have ENABLED WIRELESS AND NETWORKING. There should be a check mark next to them.
