I mean installing things to get familiarized with. I really want to depend more on Ubuntu for my dad's business, for example, I really got scared when looking about mounting a server, etc...

Are you trying to learn Ubuntu in general? Or is it a matter of trying to learn specific programs? Either way, you can simply use it as you would windows, learning as you go from trial and error, trying things, reading and trying various things on the internet, and asking as you go for advice. – RolandiXor♦ Jan 31 '12 at 19:58

There is no need to be scared if you try all the installations and configurations in a virtual box. You can break nothing. Everybody starts without any knowledge; you can get experience only by trying new things, making errors and reading how to fix them. For your dad's business, you probably need an email client, a browser and office-software. All of them are already installed: Thunderbird, Firefox and Libre Office. For tasks like mounting a device (if you ever need that) you can also use graphical programs instead of command line text. You can mount a device in the file manager (Nautilus) or in "Disk-Utility" that is already installed. In opposition to windows, one thing you will like is how easy it is to install and uninstall programs via the "Ubuntu Software Center".
