I've got the Geforce GTX460. When i want to start CUDA, i get the following error: ERROR: No NVidia compatible platform found I've testet it with every driver on the Package Manager. Always the same result.

So i've downloaded the latest driver from the nvidia page and installed it by hand. After the reboot, i've just got a black screen with a blinking cursor. So i removed the newly added driver and installed "apt-get install nvidia-current".

So im stuck at the same problem.

Some troubleshooting:

 lspci -v | grep -i nvidia
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF104 [GeForce GTX 460] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
    Kernel driver in use: nvidia
01:00.1 Audio device: NVIDIA Corporation GF104 High Definition Audio Controller (rev a1)

nvidia-settings -q NvidiaDriverVersion

  • you seem to be using an older driver for your video card, the current is 346.47 geforce.com/drivers/results/82251 check my tutorial here askubuntu.com/questions/66328/… more about additional drivers here askubuntu.com/questions/47506/…

  • Still no luck. I managed to boot my PC up to the login screen this time, but after i log myself in i've got no icons, no explorer, just the screen with my background image. I even can't start the terminal with ctrl + alt + T. Somehow i think my unity crashed with this driver. Is that possible?

  • did you read my tutorial completely? did you do sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop ? sometimes it may require it. And better do this from tty terminal Ctrl+Alt+1 with stopped X.
