I am trying to run Steam on Ubuntu, just double-upgraded from 13.04 to 14.04. There are other issues with Steam on 14.04 reported everywhere on the web, but I cannot find a similar one.

I tried both Ubuntu Store and the Steam Store versions and got into seemingly the same error.

I install Steam, agree with licensing and get to "setup account or login" prompt. When I login nothing happens. The Steam just does not load -- it crashes silently.

Here is the output in the terminal:

$ steam

Update your GPU driver https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=13815 and then try again.

  • Thanks! Updated the driver (cool installers by the link). Still the same error: gist.github.com/xealits/7316341c986ea801f521 There are errors with nns_lib. Google says it's Network Security Services. And it "couldn't connect to the server." So, I'll try to search the NSS way -- maybe network problem. (though if there is a network problem it should have loaded offline mode)

  • I meant nss_util.cc, not nns_lib. Cannot google something concrete about NSS and Steam. It seams NSS errors don't matter in what people are having. However, after installing libnss-mdns-i386 (I doubt the package changes anything) I got "an X error": gist.github.com/xealits/6668ff5678d854c20e63 -- nothing concrete about it on the web. And after rebooting, firstly it crashed and on the next run returned the same error: gist.github.com/xealits/8237b6f22927bb778bf8 I guess one should wait for some update..
