Try to use a different live usb creator instead of unetbootin. I have had issues with certain distros not being loaded properly onto the USB with unetbootin, but when i try a different program such as LiLi USB Creator or Universal USB Creator or Win32 Disk Imager then one of them usually does the trick. For Kali, they recommend you use Win32 Disk Imager if you are trying to set the live USB up thru windows. http://docs.kali.org/installation/kali-linux-live-usb-install

You have ubuntu and windows correct? run the exe file to create the liveusb through your windows installation. Check out the link i provided - it walks you through how to create the image with linux by using the dd command– tminus44Sep 5, 2014 at 15:31

I misunderstood your post I'm sorry. You can create the image with linux still. just use the dd command. if you do not feel comfortable, read the manual by typing "man dd" in the terminal minus the quotes.– tminus44Sep 5, 2014 at 15:49
