You could try gpointing-device-settings
:
sudo apt-get install gpointing-device-settings
It has additional options over the stock control panel. Good luck. Touchpad options in Ubuntu and linux in general appear to the new "WIFI Driver" - it's a bagatelle whether you get proper support for any given model. Modern clickpads (touchpads that incorporate their buttons under a single smooth surface) are particularly poorly supported. Support for certain features comes from the kernel, not the configuration tool itself, so if you can't, say, get two-fingered scrolling working from the stock options, it's unlikely that install gpointing-device-settings
will make any difference.
